The president decided to implant Martial Law in the Philippines way back 1972. By definition in ©google, Martial Law is the military government in which it includes the suspension of the ordinary law. And there were lots of insights, points of view and arguments to whether martial law had negative or positive effects to politics, economy, society and culture of the Philippines. Some says it was a noxious memory from the past but also some people applauded Marcos for imposing such system to the point that Filipinos developed descpline among themselves. During such times, anybody who dared to speak their mind would be taken from their homes and either tortured, simply imprisoned or executed and because of this many Filipinos can still remember that Martial Law in the hand of Marcos was the darkest event in the country’s recent past. Proclamation No. 216 is the 2017 proclamation of martial law and suspension of the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus in the whole of Mindanao by our current president, Rodrigo Duterte on May 23, 2017. We can’t deny the fact that the martial law we have now isn’t the same with what Marcos declaration of Martial Law, we can’t even feel it that time right? 2017 Martial Law is only for common good and for public safety. And this was only implemented because of the NPA attacks at Marawi City which threatens the neighbor cities of Marawi and not only that, even the whole Philippines. For me, Martial Law is acceptable, I mean why not? It protects the innocents like us which also serves as our guard to the situations that threaten our security. It is such a benifit to us knowing that theres a “Martial Law” that protects us, specially from those terrorists. It is indeed a good thing not unless the authority and power is abused.
